Getting from Pudong Airport (PVG) to Disney or Shanghai City Centre

• Official Taxi: If you want to just hop in a taxi without booking, follow the clear airport signs to the official taxi rank. A metered taxi to either Disney hotel costs roughly ¥80–¥120 RMB (approx. £9–£13 GBP) and takes around 20 minutes, or about 40 minutes to the city centre (approx ¥160–¥200 RMB).

• Shanghai Metro / Maglev: While technically possible to get to Disney via Metro Line 2 transferring to Line 11 at Jiangsu Road, it takes over 90 minutes and requires multiple line changes with luggage. If (like me) you don't want to miss out on the maglev and you're going to the city first, you can ride that to the Longyang Road terminus and get a Didi from there. The maglev takes you in the wrong direction for Disney.
• Airport Link Line & Bus: This train and a bus can take you to Disney Metro station, where you can get a shuttle bus to the hotels, but I wouldn't recommend this route with luggage. Take the Airport Link Line to International Tourist Resort Station. From there, board Pudong Bus 50 at the bus stop on Chuanzhan Road/Tanghuang Road to reach Shanghai Disneyland.

However, you'll most likely want a multi-centre stay between Disney and everything else Shanghai has to offer. Hotels in the city are just as affordable compared to other destinations for UK travellers. 

On-Site Disney Hotels

Besides the full immersive experience, one big on-site hotel advantage is Early Park Entry. Staying at either Disney hotel provides early park access (usually 30 to 60 minutes before general day guests) via the Disneytown priority entrance. This lets you get a head start on attractions like Zootopia: Hot Pursuit, TRON Lightcycle Power Run, or Soaring Over the Horizon before general gate queues build up.

Shanghai Disneyland Hotel (Deluxe Tier)

The crown jewel of the resort. Situated directly across Wishing Star Lake from the theme park, this hotel is a cross between Gran Destino Tower at Disney's Coronado Springs in WDW, and the Disneyland Hotel in Paris, with Art Nouveau design and subtle Disney touches.

You'll find stunning lake views (and park views in some rooms), character dining at Lumiere’s Kitchen, an indoor pool, and a complimentary 5-minute passenger ferry directly across the lake to the Disneytown park entrance.

A modern, fun, ultra-themed property with lots of Toy Story nods throughout. 

This is a family-friendly resort with massive character statues of Buzz and Woody in the courtyards, very comfortable rooms with fun Andy’s-room wallpaper, and a continuous complimentary shuttle bus to the main transportation hub. It's possible to walk to the parks if you prefer, though I found this a little bit too far.

💡The Mouse Observer Tip: I found this hotel to be exceptionally busy at check-in time. I'd recommend giving yourself an hour so you arrive at 16:00 rather than bang on 15:00. 

Off-Site Hotels

Shanghai hotels are surprisingly affordable; even for luxury brands. You won't want to miss out on the Bund, Yu Garden, or the Oriental Pearl Tower. It's well worth staying in an off-site hotel for a few days on arrival while your body clock adjusts. That way, you can make the most of Disney.
