Cruising when you're on a plant-based diet can feel daunting. You're out at sea, wondering if you'll be doomed to eat lettuce and chips all week. If you're looking at
Disney Cruise Line (DCL), I have good news:
Disney Cruise Line is vegan-friendly, offering (mostly) excellent dietary accommodation.
While Disney has rolled out its official green-leaf "Plant-Based" icon across park menus in Florida and California, Disney Cruise Line hasn't fully caught up yet. You won't find dedicated, vegan menus at every table, but behind the scenes, Disney's culinary teams are world-class at catering to vegan travellers.
From bespoke three-course dinners and off-menu Indian curries to poolside plant-based burgers and barbecues, here's our UK guide to eating vegan on Disney Cruise Line.
⚡ Key Takeaways:
- Rotational Dining: Your dedicated serving team travels with you to a different restaurant each night, meaning you only need to explain your dietary requirements once.
- Labelling vs Reality: Some menus feature plant-based items, but some dishes can be modified and you can pre-order custom dishes with your server for the following evening.
- Authentic Curries: Disney Cruise Line employs exceptional chefs from around the world; their off-menu authentic vegan Indian curries and dhal are popular among plant-based cruisers.
- Castaway Cay & Lookout Cay: Disney’s private island destinations provide plant-based options at buffet cookouts, but pre-ordering guarantees a dedicated, cross-contamination-free meal.

How Disney Rotational Dining Works for Vegans
Disney's signature "rotational dining" works well for vegan cruisers. Instead of dining in one massive banquet hall, you rotate through three distinct themed dining rooms throughout your voyage (such as Animator's Palate, Rapunzel's Royal Table, or 1923). Crucially, your servers move with you every single night.
Plant-Based Menu Options
In my experience,
the newer ships are much more consistent and generally better for having marked vegan options. On the
Wish,
Treasure,
Destiny, and
Adventure, you'll find more instances of the same
plant-based symbol you see in the US parks. If you just want to pick items off a menu with zero fuss, I'd recommend cruising on a newer ship.
Worlds of Marvel,
Plaza de Coco,
1923, and
Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure all have easy vegan menu options.
On all ships, there are almost never vegan desserts on the menu. This is something you'll need to ask for, but there'll always be something. You won't have to suffer a boring sorbet every night!
Modifications
If you're presented with a menu with zero vegan options, there's no need to panic. Many of the vegetarian dishes can be modified, and your server can talk you through what can be done vegan. If you see something you like, it doesn't hurt to ask if it can be modified.
I've found a few times that I repeatedly have to ask if the bread is vegan. Usually, they'll bring out a dedicated basket of bread and some non-dairy butter, but this is an area where I've seen a few slip up. Make sure you double-check before you tuck in! Be cautious with the dips, as many of them contain dairy.
The Pre-Order Advantage
Your head server and main servers quickly learn your preferences, drink orders, and dietary restrictions. On your very first evening, let them know you follow a vegan diet. You can mark this online prior to cruising, but it's always a good idea to notify them anyway. Personally, I don't like to overly plan my meals this way, but here's what you can do:
- Previewing Menus: At the end of each evening meal, your server can tell you about the following night’s dinner menu (or possibly show it to you).
- Custom Adjustments: You can choose the labelled plant-based options or ask the chef to adapt vegetarian dishes (such as omitting dairy, using plant butter, or swapping dairy cheese).
- Special Requests: Want a rich vegetable stir-fry with crispy tofu, bespoke pasta, jacket potato, or authentic lentil dhal? If requested the night before, the galley chefs will prepare it from scratch just for you.
💡The Mouse Observer Tip: Always note your dietary request on your cruise booking before you sail via the Disney Cruise Line website or app under "Special Requests". This alerts the ship's provisioning team ahead of embarkation day.
Breakfast: Buffets, Table Service, and Room Service
You won't struggle to find plant fuel in the morning, though you do need to know where to look. I've noticed a few updated breakfast menus on the Dream, Fantasy, Magic, and Wonder that have vegan choices. The table-service plant-based breakfast is always a favourite of mine.
Buffets and Table Service
Whether you visit
Cabanas /
Marceline Market (the buffet) or sit down in an open main dining room, plant-based breakfast items are readily available:
- Vegan Mickey Waffles: Standard Mickey waffles contain dairy and egg, but you can request gluten-free/vegan Mickey waffles made to order. Pair them with maple syrup and fresh fruit.
- Scrambles & Tofu: Tofu scrambles or JUST Egg dishes loaded with sautéed mushrooms, spinach, and peppers can easily be requested from the chef at the eggs station or via your server. They'll give you a buzzer so you know when it's ready.
- Buffet Staples: Cereal, hash browns, fresh fruit, berries, nuts, and plant milks (oat, almond, soy) are always on hand in Cabanas, Pixar Market, Enchanted Summer Restaurant, and Marceline Market. You can always check with a cast member if you're unsure what is vegan. There's always the chance for cross-contamination due to other guests, so stick to table/room service if you have a low margin for error (or an allergy).
💡The Mouse Observer Tip: On a few occasions, the buzzer they provided me with for special food orders never went off (even though the food was ready). I suggest sitting near the station and periodically checking in to see if it's ready.

Room Service Breakfast
You can order breakfast to your stateroom by hanging the order outside your door the night before. Cereal, bagels, and fresh fruit are available, as well as plant-based milks, but
you'll need to note anything specific (like oat milk or non-dairy spread) on the order card.
Lunch: Quick-Service, Table-Service, and Room-Service
When lounging on the pool deck, quick-service counters (like Flo’s V8 Cafe or Mickey's Festival of Foods) serve quick bites:
- Plant-Based Burgers & Hot Dogs: Beyond or Impossible burgers and plant-based hot dogs are available on request.
- Custom Pizza: Counter staff at the pool deck pizza stations can make a fresh, personal vegan pizza using dairy-free cheese and vegetable toppings if you ask.
- Mexican Dishes: On newer ships like the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, Donald's Cantina lets you build custom bowls and tacos with beans, rice, fajita veggies, and fresh guacamole.
- Disney Adventure Extra Options: You're spoilt for choice on the Adventure. As well as table-service and pool deck options, you also have Cosmic Kebabs with Middle-Eastern dishes (falafel and vegetable shish), and Ohana Grill serving Impossible burgers. You may be able to find even more options in Mowgli's (Indian) and Gramma Tala's.
- Room-Service: Usually, you can order a plant-based chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. I wish the menu was more extensive, but it's a reasonable choice if you feel like dining in your stateroom.
- Table-Service: Check on the app to see which restaurant is open for a sit-down lunch. It's usually a veggie burger by default, but you can always ask for something else.

Plant-Based Dining at Disney's Private Islands
When your ship docks at Disney Castaway Cay or Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point in the Bahamas, lunch is served open-air at beachside barbecue pavilions (like Cookies BBQ).
The open buffet lines feature fresh fruit, crisps, corn on the cob, and salads, alongside standard barbecue fare. However, you can also request plant-based burgers, black bean patties, or plant-based hot dogs directly at the counter.
💡The Mouse Observer Tip: If you want to avoid open-grill cross-contamination, talk to your main dining room head server the night before. They can arrange for a dedicated vegan meal (such as seasoned grilled veggies, plant patties, or a custom pasta/grain bowl) to be safely transferred from the ship's galley to the island buffet stations under your name. Bear in mind you can usually only collect this from Cookies BBQ (or Cookies Too BBQ) at Castaway Cay on the family beach, not Hangar 98 (Serenity Bay BBQ).
Adult-Only Specialty Dining: Palo, Remy, and Enchanté
Cruisers often wonder if booking premium, adult-exclusive specialty dining is worthwhile on a vegan diet. The short answer is yes — but communication is key.
Palo, Palo Trattoria, & Palo Steakhouse
Here you'll find Italian dining, and exceptional pasta and vegetable antipasti. The chefs can easily craft vegan pasta dishes with olive oil, garlic, and fresh vegetables, as well as plant-friendly risottos, pizzas, and fruit-infused sorbets.
The menu you're presented with at Palo never clearly shows vegan options, so this is one where your server will need to talk you through your options. Mostly, I've had an exceptional experience, but sometimes the starters have been a bit mediocre. For example, a bowl of rocket ("arugula" in the US) with no dressing or anything else.
I really rated the vegan arancini, and my custom vegan pizza; overall it's well worth the visit for the tranquil atmosphere.
Remy & Enchanté
High-end French fine dining menus curated by Michelin-starred chefs. While classic French cuisine leans heavily on butter and dairy, their culinary teams relish the challenge of tailoring a plant-based multi-course tasting menu. Be sure to note this on your booking and speak with the host team 24 hours prior.
All I can say is that Remy and Enchanté have served up the best vegan meals I've ever had, and it was certainly a memorable (if expensive) experience.
Coffees, Teas, and Snacks
Some of the best coffees can be found at Cove Café (adults only), and you can ask for plant-based lattes and modified specialty drinks. On the
Disney Adventure,
Bacha Coffee has a sit-in location, but you'll find this for free in the room (albeit without any plant-based milk).
On the pool deck, coffees and teas are free, but you'll need to ask a Cast Member for plant-based milk if you need it.
Again, the newer ships seem to have plant-based specialty beverages marked on the menus. These rotate fairly often, though, so always check what you're ordering is still vegan. I found a delicious plant-based pistachio latte at the Jade Cricket Café on the Disney Treasure.
Snacks are unfortunately an area that Disney Cruise Line could do better for vegans. You can find frozen desserts like Dole Whips and limited plant-based ice-cream options in places like Vanellope's Sweets & Treats, but there is very little in the way of cakes, biscuits, muffins, and other grab-and-go treats.
Checklist for Vegan Disney Cruisers
- Update Your Reservation: Mark your dietary preference as "Vegan" in the Disney Cruise Line app or online profile well before embarking.
- Meet Your Server: On Night 1 of your cruise, explain what you do and don't eat. Not all servers will be overly familiar with vegan diets.
- Pre-Order Nightly: Never hesitate to request tomorrow's dinner menu at dessert time. Pre-ordering ensures tailored meals.
- Explore Secret Indian Curries: Disney chefs make incredible plant-based Indian banquets — ask if this is an option on your sailing. Baked potatoes are also a favourite staple.
- Ask for Dairy-Free Treats: Oat milk, almond milk, vegan Mickey waffles, and dairy-free ice cream tubs (like Tofutti or Enjoy Life cookies) are stocked on board; just ask your server.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do Disney cruises have vegan options?
Yes, Disney cruises have plenty of vegan options across all ships. Each rotational dining room menu features labelled plant-based starters and main courses, while buffets, pool deck grills, and private island cookouts offer dairy-free and meatless staples. Chefs will also happily adapt standard dishes or custom-prepare dishes when requested in advance.
Is Disney Cruise Line vegan friendly?
Yes, Disney Cruise Line is widely regarded as one of the most vegan-friendly cruise operators in the industry. Thanks to Disney’s rotational dining system, your assigned waitstaff travels with you to each restaurant, ensuring your dietary preferences are catered to without having to explain them to a new server every evening.
Can I get vegan Mickey waffles on a Disney cruise?
Yes, absolutely. Vegan and allergy-friendly Mickey waffles are available upon request in both the sit-down table service restaurants at breakfast and at the buffet stations. Simply ask your server or a cast member at the station, and they'll have a fresh batch made to order.
Does Disney Cruise Line charge extra for vegan food?
No. All vegan and plant-based meals in the main rotational dining rooms, buffets, pool deck grills, and island barbecues are completely included in the standard cruise fare, just like regular meals. Only specialty adult-only dining (like Palo or Enchanté) incurs a surcharge.
Can vegans eat at Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay?
Yes. Both Disney private islands offer veggie burgers, crisps, and fresh fruit at the beachside barbecue buffets. To guarantee a freshly prepared meal free from grill cross-contamination, you can also pre-order a meal with your head server the evening before your port visit.
