For UK travellers heading over to
Disneyland Paris, Disney Newport Bay Club has long stood as a tempting choice. Perched on the edge of Lake Disney, this grand New England-inspired nautical mansion looks amazing from across the water. It carries an official four-star rating, sits within an easy 15-minute stroll to the park gates, and is often seen as a bridge between value options like Santa Fe or Sequoia Lodge and the expensive luxury of the newly reimagined Disneyland Hotel, or Disney Hotel New York.
However, it's been a decade since its last major phased overhaul (completed back in 2016), and the hotel is showing its age. While the hotel still carries charm and nostalgia, Disney Newport Bay Club could do with some refurbishment.
If you're weighing up a Disneyland Paris trip for 2027/2028, here's our honest review of what it's really like to stay at Disney Newport Bay Club right now.
⚡ Key Takeaways:
- Overall Verdict: The concept is grand, but it's beginning to feel dated. Over a decade since works began (finishing in 2016), heavy wear-and-tear makes it feel more like a tired 3-star seaside business hotel than a premium 4-star Disney flagship.
- The Location: Unbeatable. A flat 10-to-15-minute walk around Lake Disney through Disney Village brings you right to the turnstiles of both Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios / Disney Adventure World.
- The Rooms: Charming nautical theme (reminiscent of Disney Cruise Line) that may not be for everyone. Scuffed furnishings and dated bathrooms.
- Size: With over 1,090 rooms, Newport Bay Club is enormous. Corridors can stretch for hundreds of metres, meaning luggage hauling and check-in queues can get exhausting.

The Nautical Theme

Designed by renowned American architect Robert A.M. Stern, Newport Bay Club was created as a love letter to the aristocratic East Coast sailing clubs and Cape Cod coastal resorts of the early 1900s. First impressions are promising: brass portholes, yacht models, polished navigation instruments, and upscale wooden fittings throughout.
Step inside the stunning lobby, and that first impression still works. The sweeping staircases and luxurious check-in area exude class. But as soon as you transition out of the main hall, the magic begins to fray a little:
- The "Endless Hallway" Syndrome: Newport Bay Club is one of the largest single hotel buildings in Europe. Its layout features long, dim corridors with busy patterned carpets that make the walk to your room feel like a military march after a 25,000-step park day.
- Visible Wear and Tear: Skirting boards throughout the public hallways show chipping, high-traffic doors are scuffed, and the brass finishings look tarnished rather than vintage. Some rooms are even boarded up, and windows cracked.
Room Review

The hotel underwent an extensive, floor-by-floor renovation that wrapped up in 2016. While that upgrade elevated Newport Bay from a decaying two-star feel into its modern four-star rating, that was a decade ago. In the world of hospitality, a ten-year-old refit without intermediate refreshes is an eternity. In that time, Disney has also taken full ownership of the resort, so it lags behind the standards of the more recent refurbishments.
We stayed in a standard Superior King Room, and the room immediately reminded me of classic Disney Cruise Line decor before more recent updates. The design is fun and comforting, but certainly a choice. It won't be for everyone. Instead of feeling crisp, breezy, and coastal like they could do, the rooms feel busy and dark.
The headboards, lamps, and bed cushion are a really nice touch and certainly give the room character. What doesn't work for me is the wallpaper and brown border with printed graphics. It's the opposite of subtle, and just makes everything feel very 90s. There are definitely better ways to include Disney and character touches without losing the classy seaside aesthetic.
Bathrooms are a reasonable size, but are the most dated and worn I've seen on property. They still retain high-sided shower-over-bath tubs with dated shower fittings, rather than sleek, accessible walk-in rainfall showers. Water pressure is adequate, but bright blue, overpowering paint, cracked grouting, and ageing sealants around the sink basins clearly demonstrate that a full gut-and-refurb is due.
Air conditioning seemed to work reasonably well and kept the room cool, but there was a musty smell in the room that lingered throughout our stay.
You get tea and coffee facilities, and two bottles of Vittel per stay (not replenished each day). Plug sockets are a combination of UK and European on the dresser and by the bed, and there's USB charging below the TV. This definitely needs updating at the next refurb to provide bedside USB-C charging.
💡The Mouse Observer Tip: If you're assigned a room in the East or West wings far from the central elevators, ask guest reception if a room closer to the lobby or Lake Disney side is available. Walking an extra 6–8 minutes down endless carpeted hallways just to leave your room wears very thin very quickly!

Dining & Amenities: Cape Cod, Yacht Club, and the Nantucket Pool
While the rooms feel neglected, Newport Bay Club does boast comprehensive amenities that keep it busy throughout the year:
- Cape Cod (Buffet): A sprawling buffet restaurant featuring seafood medleys, continental hot dishes, and standard Disney staples. It serves breakfast and dinner. While the selection is varied, the sheer size of the hotel can make breakfast feel busy during peak hours.
- Yacht Club (Table Service): A quieter, refined dining room offering steakhouse classics and upscale seafood. It's significantly better paced than Cape Cod, though pricing feels steep for what is delivered.
- Captain’s Quarters Bar: Overlooking Lake Disney, this nautical-themed cocktail bar is arguably the best atmospheric spot in the hotel. Grabbing a drink here after park closing is lovely, though finding an open table can be a battle.
- Nantucket Pool and Health Club: The indoor-outdoor heated pool complex remains a highlight. It features a fun indoor boat with a heated swim-through channel connecting to an outdoor area. However, the area does look a little bit tired.
Cape Cod and Yacht Club are both covered under the
"Extra" Meal Plan for 2027.
The Compass Club: Is the Club Level Worth It?
If you want to salvage a stay here, booking Compass Club (Newport Bay's club level) provides a notable bump in personal service:
- Private Check-In: Skip the massive reception queue at peak arrival times by checking in at a dedicated desk.
- Lounge Access: Dedicated lounge providing a peaceful American hot breakfast away from the Cape Cod rush, plus complimentary afternoon tea and sweet snacks between 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM, along with soft drinks throughout the day.
- Better Locations: Compass Club rooms are situated on the higher floors, offering superior views across Lake Disney and slightly easier elevator access.
- The Caveat: While the perks are great, keep in mind that the rooms themselves mostly share the same fundamental aesthetics as the standard Superior rooms.
The Mouse Observer Verdict: Should You Book Disney Newport Bay Club?
Disney Newport Bay Club isn't a terrible hotel — far from it — it's simply beginning to show its age against the current Disney standard. The original East Coast nautical theme is charming and grand in scale, and it's definitely a resort to tick off your bucket list. But a decade of continuous wear, dated bathrooms, lack of modern connectivity, and cavernous corridors hold it back from being as good as it could be.
If you're paying 4-star prices, you'd be far better off booking Disney Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel for a genuinely modern 4-star experience, or saving your pounds and choosing Disney Sequoia Lodge, which delivers more atmospheric warmth and charm at a 3-star price point. Until Disneyland Paris announces a comprehensive, floor-to-ceiling transformation for Newport Bay Club, manage your expectations accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions
When was Disney Newport Bay Club last refurbished?
The last major refurbishment of Disney Newport Bay Club was completed in 2016. That multi-year project updated the guest rooms, upgraded exterior facades, and earned the property its official 4-star hotel status. However, it hasn't seen a significant modernisation since, leaving rooms and public spaces feeling dated.
How long is the walk from Newport Bay Club to the Disneyland Paris parks?
The walk takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Guests stroll along the lakeside boardwalk and through Disney Village directly to the security turnstiles for Disneyland Park and Disney Adventure World (formerly Walt Disney Studios Park). A free shuttle bus is also available every 10–12 minutes.
Is Disney Newport Bay Club better than Disney Sequoia Lodge?
It depends on whether you prefer modern polish or rustic charm. Newport Bay Club carries an extra star and offers limited room service and slightly larger amenities. However, Sequoia Lodge is often noticeably cheaper, offers a much cozier atmosphere (especially around Redwood Bar and Lounge), and many guests feel it offers superior overall value given Newport Bay's dated condition.
Do rooms at Disney Newport Bay Club have mini-fridges?
Standard Superior Rooms do not feature standard refrigeration. You'll find a small thermoelectric cooler (chiller box) that can keep drinks mildly cool, but it isn't cold enough to safely store fresh milk or temperature-sensitive medication. Compass Club rooms and suites offer dedicated mini-fridges.
Does staying at Newport Bay Club include Extra Magic Time?
Yes. Guests staying at Disney Newport Bay Club receive Extra Magic Time, granting access to select attractions in both Disneyland Park and Disney Adventure World up to an hour before general park opening each morning.
Is the swimming pool open all year at Disney Newport Bay Club?
Yes, the Nantucket Pool is open year-round. It features a large heated indoor swimming area that connects via an aquatic swim-through portal to a heated outdoor pool, alongside a whirlpool hot tub, sauna, and steam room.
